Elba
- Elba Island is famous for the blue waters, the beaches, walking
and cycling trails, scuba diving, windsurfing and the food. Just 28
km long and 19 km across at its widest point, Elba is well equipped
for tourists, with plenty of hotels and camp sites. Portoferraio was
Napoleon’s home while he was emperor of this island.
Other places are Marina di Campo, Porto Azzurro and Marciana Marina.
Marciana di Marina is fronted by some pleasant pebble beaches, it
makes a fine base for attacking the island’s best walking trails.
Marina di Campo, on the south side of island, is Elba’s second-largest
town. Its beach of bright, white sand pulls in holidaymakers by the
thousands; coves further west, though less spectacular, are more tranquil.
Porto Azzurro is quite a pleasant resort town close to some excellent
beaches.
